Meet Our Staff

Martha Halls

Interim Pastor
E-mail Martha Halls

Pastor Martha Halls has served in interim ministry with congregations in Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois for the past 22 years, most recently at Luther Memorial Church of Chicago.  Earlier she served congregations at Stewart and St. Joseph, Minnesota. She also taught courses in human identity and relationships and in family and marriage relationships at the University of Northern Iowa.  She is a graduate of Bemidji State University and Luther Seminary.

Martha grew up on a farm near Brooten, Minnesota. She enjoys visits with her mom, who now lives in Glenwood. She likes working with others to achieve a common goal, finding and celebrating the gifts of those around her, organizing projects, space and people, laughing and finding the joy in life, and finding new ways to use things that have been discarded or underused. Her goal in ministry and in life is to preach and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ by loving the people that God has put in her life.

Marcus Kunz

Interim Pastor
E-mail Marcus Kunz

Pastor Marcus Kunz has also served a variety of calls in ministry, including interim ministry, development of a new congregation, and service on synod and churchwide staffs.  For 10 years he taught a New Testament Introduction class at St. Cloud State University. He is a graduate of Valparaiso University, Luther Seminary, and the University of Chicago.

Marcus lived in Texas, Tennessee and Missouri while growing up in a Lutheran pastor’s household.  He finds great satisfaction in discovering the gifts God gives both in the Word and in the people who live in the Word.  He has experienced great joy in preaching, teaching, singing in choirs and being with family and friends.  He is much more faithful about his daily bowl of oatmeal than his daily workout.

Katrina Johnson

Bookkeeper

Hello!! My name is Katrina. I have spent most of my life in and around the Fergus Falls area.  I graduated from Fergus Falls High School and grew up playing Hockey.  I was a bit of a band geek playing trombone in every band possible (Wind Ensemble, pep, marching, jazz etc.). I also grew up just down the road at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. I spent many youth years being an active member and was lucky enough to attend two National Youth Gatherings.  After high school, I immediately continued my education at M State in Fergus Falls and received my Practical Nursing Diploma. I married my high school sweetheart Travis Johnson a year later. Together we are raising two active boys Zachary and Griffin.  They are 5 and 6 years old and are active with soccer and hockey.

I wear many hats in life right now and love each one. I have been a LPN for over ten years. I have always loved helping and supporting people. I feel very privileged being able to be a support for people in some of their most vulnerable times. Some of you may already know, nursing can also be very demanding and wearing on a person.  With my passion for people in mind, I went back to school and obtained my Real Estate license. I feel I am able to continue helping and supporting others, but I get to experience more of the happy moments in their lives. I have also been very lucky to have Leslie Flugstad as my mentor at Century 21 and now as your new bookkeeper!! I still “play” nurse from time to time and will continue in real estate and as I serve here. I’m so excited to get to know all of you and be a part of First Lutheran Church.

They strive to pass the faith to everyone they encounter through family and work.

She has been a Sunday School Superintendent and Vacation Bible School leader for many years. Over the years, she has enjoyed working to develop special events, Milestone Classes, Butterflies and Dragonflies, and Vacation Bible School to help our students, and their parents get the most out of their experience in the First Lutheran community of believers.

Steve Hosch

Steve Hosch has been working at First Lutheran for over 20 years. He was born in Ashland, Ohio and has lived in many different places before settling in just outside of Fergus Falls. He was married in 1984 to Cheri, and they had three children. He graduated from Coopers High School in Robbinsdale, MN. Steve and two of his daughters live together with his dog, Hans, a German Shepherd. We are very blessed to have such a hard-working Janitor here at First Lutheran. He oversees all of the cleaning and building maintenance, and has great skill in making our building last through the years.

Keith Melberg

Keith Melberg has been the organist at First Lutheran Church for 29 years.  Prior to that he was an organist at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Keith also accompanies the Senior Choir and plays in Hosanna Handbells (he plays the heavy, large ones!)  Keith is a retired supervisor for the Customer Information System at Otter Tail Power Company and still does some contract work for Otter Tail Power.  Keith has 4 children and 8 grand-children and enjoys singing with Community College Chorale in his spare time.  Keith is an incredible asset to our music ministry.

Linda Mellon

Bell Choir Director

Linda Mellon has been a member of First Lutheran Church since she was in fifth grade. Linda has been involved in music ministry since 1984.  She was asked to direct one of the children’s choirs temporarily and it stuck.  She says, “thirty-one years later, here I am!” In 1987, the church was gifted with a three octave set of Malmark handbells.  Linda then began directing the handbell choir.  The bell choir has since added two more octaves of bells and five octaves of choirchimes. Linda is married to Bud (they were married at First Lutheran in 1977) and they have two daughters, Sarah and Erica, who were both baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran.  Linda and Bud have five grandchildren who love to visit grandma and watch her while she directs the Bell Choir!  Linda and Bud live on Ottertail lake.

Anne Taylor

Worship Team Director

Anne Taylor has been involved with church music since the age of 14 when she became the full-time organist at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay, MN. She studied piano and organ at Luther College and was music director/organist at the Norwegian Memorial Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and organist at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in DeKalb, IL.  At First Lutheran, she has directed the Worship Team for the past six years and enjoys the musical fellowship shared with the other members. She and her husband, Sean, have two children: Ethan, a student at Luther College, and Sarah, a high school senior.  Outside of church work, Anne is an English Instructor at North Dakota State College of Science.  She loves all things related to Norway, including chocolate, goat cheese, and skiing.
